Accessing Customize Fields Section
If you are adding a Custom Field to any other Custom Object, please setup the Custom Object first. For additional details, refer to Standard Custom Objects and Workflow/Pipeline Custom Objects articles.
There are two available interfaces for adding custom fields:
- Directly on the object menu (through the Contacts tab)
- Through the settings menu item
Attention: You should be an administrator to access and customize fields for all objects inside the main application settings. If you do not have the necessary permissions please contact an administrator
How to Add a Custom Field
If you are adding a Custom Field to the Contact or Companies Record, follow the steps below:
1. Navigate to Settings from the top menu bar
2. Click Customize Fields
3. Choose whether you want to add custom fields to Contacts or any of your Custom Objects
4. Find the appropriate category, click Add New Field
5. Enter the Field Name
6. Choose the Field Type
Note: Based on the chosen field type, additional settings may need to be configured in the pop-up
7. Click Save
Once you have filled out the Field Settings, you may need to assign values to specify the available options that will be listed for the user to choose from. The options will vary, depending on the chosen custom field type.
When you create a new custom field that users may be granted access to, these custom fields are based on the permissions that you set. Each permission group grants a specific default set of access to new fields. This level of permissions is put into both the data model, and the view. Specifically in that category, it will automatically show up in the view for all that have permissions to that custom field.
Once you have successfully added a field, you are assigned a field ID and an API name that you can customize. If you would like to change the API name of a field, you can edit a custom field once it has been created.
