Purpose: Learn how to manually update an incorrect Principal Agent for an Agency record in your Kizen account's Contracting CoPilot workflow.
Overview
Every Agency in the *Agents & Agencies object requires the Principal Agent field to be correctly filled out, as this is the licensed individual who holds the contract with the carrier. If the Principal Agent is incorrect, you can either:
- Manually update the "Agency Has Principal Agents (Agents Only)" field on the Agency record.
- OR manually update the "Principal Agent for Agency (Agency Only)" on the Agent record.
⚠️ Warning: The Principal Agent can be manually corrected using either method, but not both. It's crucial that you do not try to manually update both the “Principal Agent for Agency (Agency Only)” and “Agency Has Principal Agents (Agents Only)" fields on the same object record. These fields are Relationship fields, so only one of the fields should be populated on each object record, depending on if you are viewing the agent's or agency's record. An Agency record should only have the “Agency Has Principal Agents (Agents Only)" field filled out. An Agent record should only have the “Principal Agent for Agency (Agency Only)” field filled out.
How to Update an Agency's Principal Agent
Option 1: How to Update the Principal Agent on the Agency Record
- In the *Agents & Agencies object, search for the specific Agency record. (Make sure the "Designation Type" field is set to "Agency."

- Select the hyperlinked NPN to open the Agency record.
- Remove the existing Agent record and/or add a new Agent record with the correct NPN to the "Agency Has Principal Agents (Agents Only)" field (under the "Marketing & Production Data" category).

- Select the "Save" button in the top right.
✅ Success Indicator: To double-check that the Principal Agent was successfully updated, select the corrected Agent record in the "Agency Has Principal Agents (Agents Only)" field. In the Agent record, the Agency you just modified should appear in the "Principal Agent for Agency (Agency Only)" field. Option 2: How to Update the Principal Agent Record on the Agent Record
- In the *Agents & Agencies object, search for the specific Agent record. (Make sure the "Designation Type" field is set to "Agent."

- Select the hyperlinked NPN to open the Agency record.
- Remove the existing Agency record and/or add a new Agency record with the correct NPN to the "Principal Agent for Agency (Agency Only)" field (under the "Marketing & Production Data" category).

- Select the "Save" button in the top right.
✅ Success Indicator: To double-check that the Principal Agent was successfully updated, select the corrected Agency record in the "Principal Agent for Agency (Agency Only)" field.
